The symbol of the new Georgia was truly built on a grand scale, its sparkling golden dome is visible from almost any point in Tbilisi. The foundation was laid according to all traditions, objects from holy places were placed in its base: stones from Mount Sioni and the Jordan River, earth from Jerusalem and from the tomb of St. George. The bells of the cathedral were cast in Germany and have an original Georgian sound. They were created with the help and participation of Georgian composers. The temple is part of a whole complex, which includes the residence of the Patriarch and a monastery, a theological seminary and academy, a complex of nine chapels, five of which are located underground.
