Megalithic settlement of Mamulo-Pantiani (Region of Kvemo Kartli)
Megalithic settlement of Mamulo-Pantiani (Georgian: მამულო-პანტიანის მეგალითები) – Megalithic settlement is located at the foot of a steep wooded hill, on the right bank of the river Khrami (Georgian: ხრამი). The settlement dates back to the 2nd millennium BC and occupies an area of about 50,000 m². There are buildings from the Christian period. The Mamulo-Pantiani complex attracts attention with its scale and is a surprisingly impressive and interesting monument. A megalithic complex unique in its scale, it is a witness and bearer of information, a long history of the formation of statehood in the Caucasus. The megalithic settlement was revived again in the Middle Ages. A medieval hall church has been preserved on the territory
The megalithic complex is terraced, the terraces are marked by streets 4-5 meters wide. All the buildings are longitudinal and rectangular. The arrangement of the walls is cyclopean, uneven. Basalt is used as a building material. The walls contain boulders that weigh up to 3-4 tons. It is difficult to explain from what or from whom three thousand years ago people protected themselves with walls of such thickness. It is amazing how it was possible to reach a three-ton boulder at a height of 2-3 m and at the same time adapt it to the already stacked boulders with rough sides. The entrances to the buildings were covered from above, of which only two or three have survived today. All entrances are located on the edge of the building. Mamula-Pantiani is included in the list of historical and cultural monuments of national importance in Georgia.
