Mtavarta Complex (Region of Mtskheta-Mtianeti)
Mtavarta Complex (Georgian: მთავართას კომპლექსი) – An interesting monument of Georgian architecture. The Mtavarta Complex is located on the top of a high mountain covered with forest, includes several chronologically different buildings and must belong to the transitional period. The buildings are grouped into two groups and surrounded by a powerful fence of an almost round shape. The buildings of the ataman complex are located in two groups on an almost round site, surrounded by a powerful wall.
One group consists of the Church of St. George, located in the middle of the courtyard, and several buildings attached to it from the south and west. The second group is a two-story house, standing in the northwestern part of the courtyard, with a two-room room adjoining it from the east. The monument is badly damaged, the buildings are in ruins, covered with earth and vegetation. Nevertheless, it still impresses the viewer with its scale, layout and composition. The Mtavarta complex is one of the most interesting and original examples of Georgian architecture, which definitely needs to be studied and restored.
