Tbilisi Botanical Garden
Tbilisi Botanical Garden (Georgian თბილისის ბოტანიკური ბაღი) – A real oasis in the very center of Tbilisi. The Tbilisi Botanical Garden is located in the historical center of the city, in a natural landscape.
A kind of continuation of the garden is a canyon of marvelous beauty, cut by the river in the rocks of volcanic origin, for millions of years. About 3500 species of flora of Georgia and different regions of the world (Mediterranean coast, North America, China, Japan, Himalayas, Siberia) are represented in the botanical garden. Rare species of Georgian fauna, which are endemic and listed in the Red Book, make the Tbilisi Botanical Garden unique. The botanical garden has the following departments: Floriculture, Landscape Design, Plant Protection, Plant and Soil Protection, Tropical Plant Nursery.
Tbilisi Botanical Garden is one of the oldest in the world. The history begins in XVII century. he predecessor of the current one was – “Royal garden” of ornamental and medicinal plants growing in the lower part of the valley of the Tsavkisisskali (Legvtakhevi) river valley (Georgian: წავკისისწყალი (ლეღვთახევი)). During the following decades, the garden was significantly expanded and transformed, replenished with new plant species. The Tbilisi Botanical Garden attracts thousands of visitors. Visitors can enjoy the amazing nature of the botanical garden, see the waterfall and the bridge over it, walk through the bamboo grove and cross the oldest arch bridge, see the pantheon of Azerbaijan public figures, walk to the upper parterre called “Garden of Angels”. The Botanical Garden offers easy access to Narikala Fortress, Abanotubani district and other attractions in the city center.
