Tbilisi Great Synagogue
Tbilisi Great Synagogue (Georgian: თბილისის დიდი სინაგოგა) -Synagogue was built in the early 20th century, in 1904-1913. The first prayer took place in 1909, when construction work was still ongoing. The Great Synagogue is one of the most beautiful and significant landmarks of the city. Its exquisite architecture impresses with its beauty and combines elements of the East and West, creating a special atmosphere and attracting the attention of visitors. The main facade is decorated with a large Star of David. Inside, the synagogue is notable for its beautiful paintings on the walls and ceilings, crystal chandeliers and an unusually calm atmosphere.
The synagogue is open every day except Saturday, with morning and evening prayers. Daily prayers and Torah readings are held in the lower prayer hall, while the upper, more solemn and bright, hall is used on holidays. There is also a women’s hall on the second floor (men and women pray separately in Judaism). In addition, the Great Synagogue has a cozy courtyard, a kosher restaurant, and a small shop with kosher products. Entrance to the synagogue is open to everyone, regardless of religion. It is important to note that visiting the Great Synagogue of Tbilisi is subject to certain rules and regulations.
