Berdika Fortress (Poladauri) (Region of Kvemo Kartli)
Berdika Fortress (Poladauri) (Georgian: ბერდიკას(ფოლადაური) ციხე) – Historical fortress in Kvemo Kartli, is located near the Bolnisistskali River(Georgian: ბოლნისისწყალი), on a high rocky mountain. The name of the fortress comes from the historical village of Berdika. The fortress was built in the middle of the feudal era and exercised control over the road passing through Poladauri, which through the Mgliskari Pass (Georgian: მგლისკარი ) passed to historical region of Georgia – Lore (Georgian: ლორე). There is no reliable information about who built this fortress. The fortress has retained its appearance and includes a number of ramparts and large four-sided towers. The plan is dictated by the shapes of the rock and corresponds to the terrain.
The fortress consists of two – the upper one (citadelь) and the lower part. The lower one is about three times the size of the citadel. The upper part consists of four towers or tower sections connected by stairs and doors. The entrance to the castle would have been in the western part. Round buttresses are attached to the wall. The lower part is located to the east of the citadel. The surviving fragments of the wall show that it was two-layered. There are two floors left of the towers, one of which is blind, and the other has citadel windows. The fort is built on the flat stone of the local rock. To the north of the fortress is a gorge, which is the only place where you can find a way to this structure. Near the fort, in the eastern part of the fortress, there are rocks to which there are a small number of paths, from the top there are very beautiful landscapes.
