Didgori Battle Memorial Complex (Georgian: დიდგორის ბრძოლის მემორიალი)- The memorial is dedicated to one of the most important and famous battles in the history of Georgia – the Battle of Didgori. the memorial complex majestically symbolizes the courage and spirit of the Georgian people. The large-scale complex consists of many elements, but the most interesting are about four dozen steel swords scattered throughout the territory. In the center of the complex is a monument decorated with ancient Georgian ornamentation – a dwarf, a symbol of the sun, surrounded by parade columns, swords, bells and other elements of the symbol of victory and unity.The monument was built in 1976 in honor of this great battle and is used for various ceremonial performances. including the Georgian folk festival Didgoroba (Georgian: დიდგორობა).
On August 12, 1121, on the Didgori Field, the legendary Georgian king David IV the Builder (Georgian: დავით IV აღმაშენებელი), fought against numerous Turkish-Seljuk armies and won the battle. Thanks to the victory on the Didgori field Georgia gained its independence. This moment is considered to be the beginning of the “Golden Age” – the era when the Georgian kingdom reached the peak of its prosperity and power. For centuries, it was the heritage of Didgori that defined the national consciousness, faith and devotion to the values of freedom and independence. The monument has become a unique testimony to the glorious events and feats that laid the foundations of modern Georgia. Its architectural forms and symbolic design are impressive in their grandiosity and power. This place encourages us to think about the importance of memory and preservation of cultural heritage for future generations.
