Jambakur – Orbeliani Palace (Region of Shida Kartli)
Jambakur – Orbeliani Palace (Georgian: ჯამბაკურ-ორბელიანთა სასახლე) – The palace complex in the village of Lamiskana was the residence of a famous Georgian feudal family – the Orbeliani. The palace is built on the slope of a high hill, on the territory of an ancient settlement and has a convenient location. From here you can clearly see a large section of the Ksani Valley (Georgian: ქსნის ხეობა) and the villages located there. The complex included a two-story palace, the Church of St. George, a wine cellar, stables and a mill. Today, only the church and a fairly large palace remain, built of cobblestones and flat square bricks, surrounded by balconies on all four sides.
On the first floor of the palace there are huge presses and multi-ton jugs, on the second floor there are halls and bedrooms, and on the third floor there is a veranda with a beautiful view. At one time, the walls of the palace were covered with fabric. Several fireplaces and wall stoves were used to heat the building. The palace housed a rich library of the Orbeliani family. Famous public figures often gathered in the literary salon of the palace. In the first years of Soviet power, the building housed the board of the collective farm. At different times, a post office, a clinic and a maternity hospital were located here. The harvest was stored in the Church of St. George. Currently, the palace houses a museum. The personal belongings of the owners of this palace are exhibited in the large hall. Since 2006, the Orbeliani palace complex has been awarded the status of a cultural heritage site.
