Kldekari Fortress (Region of  Kvemo Kartli)
Kldekari Fortress (Georgian: კლდეკარის ციხე) – The remains of a once majestic structure, towering at an altitude of 2,200 meters above sea level. The rocky natural environment served as an excellent defense against enemy attacks. The Trialeti Ridge (Georgian: თრიალეთის ქედი) rises just like a wall. In two places there is a passage into the rock and a cut exit. That is why the fortress has such a name – Kldekari (Gate in the Rocks). The ancient castle has seen many battles, rises and falls. The structure has a lot of damage and it is almost impossible to restore its original appearance. But from what has survived to our time, we can see that it was a very large-scale structure.
Historians claim that the Kldekari Fortress was built in 876-880. The owners of the castle could control the only road here, as the fortress had a perfect view of all the lands of Kartli and Trialeti up to the city of Gori. Kldekari Castle was built by a feudal lord from the Baghvashi family. The rise and fall of the Kldekari Fortress are directly related to the rise and fall of this noble family. The fortress has a wonderful location and simply stunning views open up from there. Currently, Kldekari Castle has been preserved in a badly damaged state. It is difficult to restore the original picture, but even among the surviving ruins, the original scale of the castle is clearly visible. The location of the ruins of this medieval structure and the view opening up in front make a wonderful impression. Even today, the castle guards the old caravan roads and the Trialeti ridges.
