Ksani Fortress (Region of Shida Kartli)
Ksani Fortress (Georgian: ქსნის ციხე). A medieval fortress at the intersection of the Ksani and Mtkvari rivers, on Mount Sarkineti, which controlled important strategic roads. The perimeter of the walls and towers has survived to this day. The strategic fortress was well fortified. The most complex and interesting object of the fortress is the elongated southeastern tower. It consisted of four floors and a terrace. The first two were of economic importance, there were qvevris, as well as a huge reservoir tank. Its walls were plastered with such a strong solution that they have been preserved in excellent condition.
The third floor was residential, as evidenced by the fireplace niche. The upper floor and the terrace had a defensive significance. The wooden floors have not survived, but in several places you can see the remains of beams built into the walls. The third tower was built around the walls of the old 16th century tower, here were also arranged rooms for both living and fighting. The fourth tower was attached to the north-western corner of the fortress so that the corner seems to cut into it. For the entrance, a narrow and low opening was cut in the wall. On the first floor of this tower, vessels for storing wine were also dug in.
Tsikhisdziri village (Georgian: სოფელი ციხისძირი), Mtskheta Municipality (Georgian: მცხეთის მუნიციპალიტეტი)
