Navenakhevi Cave (Region of Imereti)
Navenakhevi Cave (Georgian: ნავენახევის მღვიმე) – The cave is distinguished by its differently shaped stalagmites, stalactites and stalagnates (opposite the stalactites, stalagmites are formed, which together create a stalagant). The cave is unique in its structure, which includes two floors with four cave halls, which together represent a height of 250 meters. At 30 meters from the entrance, the cave is divided into two parts. The second floor is connected to the hall by small steps. The cave has no exit due to a massive stalagmite, the thickness of which is 7 meters.
According to rough estimates, the Navenakhevi rock complex was formed about 25 million years ago. Throughout the cave there is abundant rubble, clay slabs, and well-preserved bone-branch formations. The length of the underground route open to visitors does not exceed 250 meters. The temperature in the cave is on average 10 degrees, varying from 5 to 15 degrees throughout the year. Concrete paths do not require special shoes and are quite comfortable for walking. Inside the cave there is modern lighting, an eco-path, and a children’s area. In 2007, the cave was given the status of a natural monument.
