Sairme Pillars (Columns) (Region of Samtskhe-Javakheti)
Sairme Pillars (Columns)(Georgian: საირმის სვეტები) – The rocky massif created by nature over thousands of years, it is one of the most interesting and impressive natural monuments of Georgia. The Sairme Desert and the unique natural monument erected in it – the Sairme Columns are located between the villages of Alpana and Chrebalo, near the village of Sairme (not to be confused with the Sairme resort), in the Tsageri municipality, on the left bank of the Tsablaristskali River. The columns are composed of volcanic rocks of the Paleogene (Lower Tertiary) age. The high degree of hardening and cementation of volcanic rocks played an important role in the preservation of this unique monument.
The Sairme Columns rise on a low terrace of the river valley. The length of the columnar massif is 3 kilometers, the height is 30 meters, the diameter is 12 meters. The territory is covered with dense vegetation. The route to the natural monument is easy and pleasant for walking. The path is chosen in such a way that it goes around the columns from the side, at a distance of about 200 meters, and ends on the platform above the complex of columns. From here, the best view of the surroundings opens up and allows you to perceive the complex of columns as a single whole. The natural monumentality of the Columns amazes with its scale. Winding narrow paths and steep climbs into the mountains make this place one of the best for hiking in Georgia.
