Shurubumu Canyon and Caves (Region of Samegrelo)
Shurubumu Canyon and Caves (Georgian: შურუბუმუს მღვიმე და კანიონი ) – One of the most beautiful and magical places in Georgia, attracting many nature and travel lovers. In the Mengrelian dialect) “Shurubumu” means – quiet. The valley of the Khobistskali River (Georgian: ხობისწყალი ), is known for its untouched nature, beautiful lakes, waterfalls and huge caves that look like huge corridors. The river formed a beautiful narrow canyon with inaccessible banks, which is surrounded by a century-old willow forest. The virgin Colchis forest, moss-covered boulders, ancient boxwood groves and small waterfalls create fabulous landscapes. Mountain and forest paths leading to the cave are surrounded by small waterfalls.
The Migari massif (Georgian: მიგარიის მასივი ) of limestone is located in the southern peripheral part of the Egrisi ridge (Georgian: ეგრისის ქედი ), among the gorges of the Khobistskali and Tekhura (Georgian: ტეხურა) rivers. Among the caves of the mountain range, the karst cave Shurubumu is noteworthy. The cave is decorated with almost all types of molten forms – stalactites and helicites. It includes a whole system of underground rivers and lakes, where tens of kilometers of corridors are laid. The cave is characterized by narrow openings. The cavities are blocked by siphon waters, but it is still possible to walk to the end (150 m). The local population used the Shurubumu cave to treat asthma, and in the caves of Kalichoni (Georgian: კალიჩონი) and Letsurtsume (Georgian: ლეწურწუმე) dwellings of primitive hominids were discovered.
