Tobavarchkhili Lakes (Region of Samegrelo)
Tobavarchkhili Lakes (Silver Lakes) (Georgian: ტობავარჩხილის (ვერცხლის) ტბები) — Tobavarchkhili, a common name for six lakes located on the Egrisi Range, in the Samegrelo Region. One of the most beautiful and hard-to-reach natural attractions of Georgia. Only a few people know by hearsay how beautiful it is and how magnificent the nature surrounding it is. Very few people have seen it. The reason for this is the fact that it is difficult to access and can only be visited during a short period of time (July – early August), since in these places at other times there are heavy rains and fog. This lake makes a magnificent and unforgettable impression on anyone who sees it.
It is not easy to find the lake on your own. It will not be easy to walk several kilometers through the mountainous and forested terrain, but the indescribable landscapes will certainly give you energy. The path to the lake begins in the village of Mukhuri (Chkhorotsku) and ends in the Magana gorge. Travelers must be in good physical shape and equipped with appropriate equipment (clothes, shoes, improvised means, etc.). The road is divided into several levels: up to 1200 meters – covered with broadleaf forest (oak, chestnut, hornbeam, beech) up to 2100 meters – coniferous forest (spruce, pine) higher – subalpine and alpine meadows are spread out. There are many rivers, mineral springs and waterfalls in this area.
