Udzo Monastery
Udzo Monastery (Georgian: უძოს მონასტერი) – The monastery is located in a picturesque corner of mountainous Georgia, surrounded by dense forests and has a mystical aura due to its remoteness and quiet tranquility. The legend says that the Church of St. George was built by a childless man who constantly prayed to the saint for a son. The wish of the sufferer came true. This is where the name of both the mountain and the church comes from – “Udzo” (Georgian: უძო), which is translated from Georgian as “childless”. The monastery is an example of classical Georgian architecture with elements characteristic of its time. Here you can feel the spirit of ancient times and see unique architectural details that speak of a rich history.
