Gurjaani Kvelatsminda Church (Region of Kakheti )
Gurjaani Kvelatsminda Church (All Saints) (Georgian: გურჯაანის ყველაწმინდა) – The only two-domed church in all of Georgia, built in the 8th-9th centuries, perfectly preserved its original appearance, impresses with its ancient appearance. Initially, a classical three-nave basilica was built on this site, and later, two brick domes were added. The architecture of the church is an innovator of its time, which was able to overcome the complexity of the artistic task. It fits well with traditional Georgian architecture and enriches it with innovations. However, the two-domed system did not develop in Georgia. However, the Gurjaani Church of All Saints is something of an exception from the Georgian medieval architecture.
From the second half of the 7th century, a new transitional stage of development began in the history of Georgian building art, which lasted until the second half of the 10th century. This period is characterized by stylistic diversity and the features caused by this diversity, which in some cases give completely unique examples. During the transitional period, classical forms of architecture change and a search for new paths begins. Often, two completely different architectural types are combined. One of the best examples of this kind of event is the Church of All Saints in Gurjaani. According to the solution of the interior space, this is a three-nave basilica with a domed roof. Two domes instead of one, built about 1,200 years ago, distinguish the temple from other Georgian monuments.
