Lodovani (Gokhnari) Megaliths (Kvemo Kartli Region)
Megaliths in the village of Lodovani (Gokhnari) (Georgian: ლოდოვანის (გოხნარის) მეგალითები) – Megaliths in the village of Lodovani (Gokhnari), one of the largest complexes of cyclopean structures in Georgia. It probably dates back to the early Bronze Age and was used by people for many centuries and millennia. There are several megalithic structures, tunnels, fortified and closed natural cracks, menhirs on the territory. In the center there is a huge stone column – a monolith. The castle is quadrangular in plan. The eastern wall of the castle is impressive, huge natural boulders were used for its construction. Cylindrical towers were built on the southern wall.
The megalithic complex is located on a complex relief and includes four terraces. The living quarters are located in several tiers and are divided into groups connected by doors and narrow corridors. The rooms are round and oval, the walls have been preserved to a height of 1.5-3 m. The corridors in some places have the remains of ceilings made of flat stone blocks. The ceiling of the rooms can be judged by analogy with medieval buildings, in which the cone-shaped ceiling consists of stone slabs folded in an overlap; such a design is typical of the most ancient peasant residential house – Darani (Georgian: დარანი). The megalithic complex is included in the list of historical and cultural monuments of national significance of Georgia
