The village is conventionally divided into new and old Omalo. In old Omalo, there is a medieval fortress “Keselo”, built during the Mongol invasions. Five of the 13 towers surrounded by a fortress wall have survived to this day. A museum is located in one of the towers. In the north-eastern part of the fortress there are sanctuaries (khati). The houses are unusually beautiful, built of natural stone. The village has 11 immovable monuments of cultural heritage. Due to the impassability of the roads, the village is cut off from the rest of Georgia for six months. You can visit this amazing place only in spring and summer. In the guest houses, rooms are rented with meals, there is hot water, almost all the houses have solar panels.
