The surroundings of Tbilisi are rich in attractions created by nature and human hands. The Trialeti mountain zone, adjacent to Tbilisi, falls into this category. People coming here enjoy beautiful views and fresh air. Almost all year round, picnics and family outings are often held here.
Visit to Kojori Fortress. Due to its location, the fortress was difficult to reach for the enemy (at an altitude of 1250 meters). In feudal times, it was of great strategic importance for the country, since it was here that an important trade route passed. The fortress was long considered the summer residence of Georgian kings. The chronicles mention that Queen Tamara, who was seriously ill, spent about six months here. It has survived to this day in a severely damaged state, but still the ancient fortress offers a unique opportunity to plunge into the history of Georgia. From inside the fortress there are breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
Visit to Uzo Monastery. The medieval monastery is surrounded by dense forests and has a mystical aura due to its remoteness and quiet tranquility. The monastery not only impresses with its beauty, but also has deep spiritual significance. The monastery is an example of classical Georgian architecture with elements characteristic of its time. Here you can feel the spirit of ancient times and see unique architectural details that speak of a rich history. The majestic church interior, decorated with frescoes and icons, immerses visitors in a spiritual atmosphere and helps them feel connected to higher powers.
Visit to the Betania Monastery The monastery is rightly called one of the best examples of Georgian temple architecture. The complex includes the main temple, built at the turn of the 12th-13th centuries. on the site of an earlier building and later consecrated in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a compact St. George’s Church, erected at the end of the 12th century, tombs of representatives of princely families and several outbuildings. The monastery is named after the village of Bethany, where Martha and Mary lived and where the Lord raised Lazarus. Here, according to legend, the holy Queen Tamara often rested.
Visit to Mount Mtatsminda. The name of this mountain, which is part of the Trialeti ridge, is translated from Georgian as “Holy Mountain”. Its height is 770 meters above sea level. Mtatsminda literally hangs over the old quarters of Tbilisi, and the upper urban levels of the Sololaki district are already on the lower part of its slopes. There is a wonderful amusement park at the top of Mount Mtatsminda. It is divided into extreme, children’s and family zones. There is an observation deck on the mountain, which offers stunning views of Tbilisi. The observation deck is quite large, and walking along it, you can see Tbilisi from all sides.
