HORSEBACK TOURS – TOUSHETI
We invite you to travel on horseback through the fabulous Tusheti, which is located high on the slopes of the gray Caucasus and has never left anyone indifferent. A true paradise of natural beauty. An unspoiled nature reserve with stunning scenery and rich cultural history.
Tusheti is located in a mountain basin, on the northern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Range. One of the most inaccessible regions, as a result it has well preserved its originality. We can say: few have heard of it and few have seen it.
Our horseback riding tours in Tusheti are average in terms of physical activity. During the tours, you will ride on horseback over easy terrain with slight ups and downs, covering several kilometers per day.
Exciting horse trekking routes take place in the territory, which in itself is a huge natural attraction: Waterfalls, Small lakes, Mountain ranges with majestic Glaciers, Diverse flora with an abundance of relict plants.
Green valleys crossed by Rivers, Caucasian Dogs guarding flocks of sheep in Alpine meadows, Ancient villages with stone Towers, as if straight out of a fairy tale book, and of course, the residents, proud mountaineers, who love to receive guests like no other.
Horseback riding is the best way to move around the territory of Tusheti, which is surrounded on all sides by high mountains and is, as it were, secluded from the rest of the world. Even today, getting to Tusheti is only possible by jeep or helicopter.
In addition to stunning natural attractions, you will visit all the main, ancient settlements, with masterpieces of unknown mountain architects:
- Girevi – village consisting of three clusters of towers scattered along the picturesque slopes of the gorge, with breathtaking panoramic views.
- Dartlo – with a unique architectural ensemble consisting of stone houses covered with stone tiles
- Diklo – famous for its fortress where 16 soldiers defended the fortress for 18 days against an enemy army of 10 thousand;
- Dochu – with the most preserved of all architectural monuments of Tusheti, with three-story houses and boiler houses;
- Kvavlo – where high and narrow, 5-6-story military fortress-towers, 20 meters high, have been preserved;
- Keselo – fortress with 13 towers that once protected local residents from the attacks of neighboring ill-wishers;
- Omalo – kind of Tusheti “capital”, with fortified houses with roofs atypical for the region;
- Parsma – with the status of a national monument, consisting of about 50 buildings for various purposes;
- Shenako – the second largest village in the region, where one of the two temples in the whole of Tusheti is located – the Church of St. Giorgi.
And so on…There are more than 50 devastated and abandoned villages in Tusheti, the main attractions of which are ancient towers and fortresses, combined with the splendor of nature and a sense of freedom
You will have the opportunity to stay in this amazing part of the country, enjoy nature against the backdrop of a majestic panorama of mountains, clouds, over which eagles soar, and get acquainted with its culture, culinary traditions and customs.
