Georgian church singing
The origins of Georgian church singing go back to ancient times, when the ancestors of the Georgians, the Chaldeans, were still pagans. According to historians, Georgian church singing has a history of 5 thousand years ago and was performed in the then religious places. Christianity converted this song to Christianity, giving it a different character. Georgian folk songs and church chants are very similar to each other and it is often difficult to understand the nature and essence of these songs. Georgian chants mainly consist of three voices, and four-part samples are rare. Its polyphony is based on national musical thinking. Today, according to the decision of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Church, divine services in Georgian churches are performed only according to the ancient traditional Georgian church hymns.
