Inguri Dam (Region of Samegrelo)
Inguri Dam (Georgian: ენგურის კაშხალი) – A unique hydraulic structure, which is considered to be one of the highest in the world. The arch dam is one of the outstanding examples of innovative construction achievements in Georgia. The Inguri Dam can be called one of the most beautiful dams in the world, and all thanks to the surrounding mountain scenery. The Inguri River flowing here forms a deep turquoise lake. Charming landscapes have long attracted tourists, so a few years ago, it was decided to improve the tourist infrastructure near the dam. Visitors have a unique opportunity to see all the attractive objects of the arch dam and learn about the main aspects of energy production using hydro resources.
The developed tourist route at the Inguri Dam allows to get acquainted with the architectural and technological advantages of the facility, as well as to admire the picturesque views of nature. The implementation of this project turns this location into a new center of international tourism. Thanks to this route, visitors will be able to even those places that were previously closed to the general public can be visited. It should be noted that the route provides an opportunity to admire the picturesque views of nature, climb the panoramic elevator to a height of 280 meters, take a ride on a cable car, get a charge of andrenaline from the descent on a ziplane, as well as go on a trip by ship. The Inguri Arch Dam is a certified member of the Council of Europe’s Cultural Routes Program – European Industrial Heritage Route.
