Troglodyte Monastery of Natlismtsemeli (David Gareja)
Monastery of Natlismtsemeli (John-Baptist)(Georg. გარეჯის ნათლისმცემლის მონასტერი) – one of the cave monastic complexes of David Gareja, was founded in the VI-VII centuries, by a disciple of David Garejeli – Lukiane. The monastery complex carved into the rock includes churches, residential and utility caves and fortifications.
Above the complex, on top of a cliff, fragments of a tower and a protective wall have been preserved. Fragments of ancient paintings have been preserved in several churches. The main church in the center of the complex with frescoes from the first half of the 12th century deserves special attention. The painting of the monastery Natlismtsemeli (John the Baptist) is one of the most outstanding and impressive in Georgia.
